Day 2. Texas Plains Trail to Raton NM
June 8, 2006. From Amarillo, we drove on to Raton, on the border of NM and CO. Along the way we visited the Amarillo Zoo -- peacocks, tigers and bears!! And then in Dumas TX for lunch where I saw this Texas Plains Trail sign.
Driving across the border into NM we saw many extinct volcano peaks. There are 1,000s of them in NE NM. Strangely in Raton the hotel was filled with numerous gun enthusiasts who spent much time discussing their guns, ammo and safaris. We went swimming in the hotel's indoor pool and playing on their whale and frog floats. Later we went out to an Italian restaurant, but Gerald wasn't feeling well so we brought the food back to the hotel. Time to relax and unwind.
